What should I buy for a pond?

I have a pond in my front yard and I want to put an aquatic utric in there. I live in Texas (Dallas, zone 7) What can I stick in there?
 
I don't know what grows in what zone, but to toss out a couple aquatic names to research: gibba, stygia, and macrohyza.
