What are these seeds?

My dad came home with these seeds today; he said it was a flowering plant. I'm curious if any of you members know what it is. He gave me a task to try and grow them...

looks like a fruit. Try and cut the pit out, add some soil, water, and light.

Thanks, they were hard... I crushed the tiniest seed; it had an embryo. No pit... So, I just planted them less than an inch under the soil and gave it a lot of water.

Could be some kind of palm tree seeds. Those 4-5 foot tall assorted potted palms nurseries sell cheap for offices often bloom and develop seed.
