Venus Fly Trap Beginer!!!!!

Hi there ppl...

I just purchased some venus flytrap seeds and i need some help in potting them. Apart from that i have an old aquarium than is maybe 1m long x 30cm wide. Can i utilise this aquarioum for growing these cool plants. I've heard that these plants are quite hard to grow and thats why i came here to seek some help from experts.

Yes, you can use your aquarium to grow your plants in there. It is probably better to grow them outdoors, depending on where you live. Growing VFTs from seed can be difficult because they grow so slowly. Otherwise once you meet the plants basic requirements growing can be very easy.

If you want a plant that eats bugs quickly, you'll have to wait 3 years to get one thats decently sized to eat something small. And another one or two for it to be almost at full size.

But, yes, growing them outside is the best idea. NAN has you covered with the info.

yeah! VFT seeds take around a month or so to germinate. Even then, after 8 months mine are still like the size of a penny. Don't expect it to grow fast. I personally think its better off for a beginner to go to lowes or some other placce and just get a regular VFT.

I agree. That's why I tend to stay away from growing them from seed. It must make one feel really good to grow a VFT from seed into maturity, though… kind of like being a parent.

I guess I just love VFT to the point that I really love having a VFT jungle. Just like how Bugweed has....but in my case...I want all of that in one area...lol! So thats my story of growing them from seed. However, it is making me concerned about their dormancy. however, they do look reallly good though. Perfect minatures. They are as deadly and infact more effective than the adults as there are tons of springtails which are a feast for my babies.

In my opinion, VFT seeds are annoying! I have better success with taking leaf pullings and sticking them in a jungle of live LFS and let'em sprout in fron of a window sill. One leaf spruts a colony of baby plants.

I think seeds are really easy and give a high success rate. However, they are definately slower than divisions.

I don't seem to be having much luck with my seedlings - about half of them croaked on me already and half of the survivors don't look good either

Maybe not enough air circulation - I moved them to a windowsill from a tank.

Like Jim said,, leaf pulls thrown in a baggie with some LFS will get you plants fairly quickly. But seeds are cool too...just very slow.

Grow seedlings under the same light (ie., full sun) that the adults would grow in. VFT seedlings are really easy. They are just like their adults. Just really be careful about their size...as they are easy to overlook.
