Upside down root

Don't eat me,... Mr. Flytrap
This D. capillaris seems to have a very thick root growing upwards instead of downwards. Is this odd, or just somethink I've not read about yet? It looks like the root, I'm assuming it is a root, and it's growing right out of the crown.
Here are some pictures.

It's thicker than a flower spike and a differant texture. The flower spike next to it (second picture) is very differant. It's also not like any leaf. It has more of a bumpy leathery texture. It is just like root cuttings I've taken from my adelea, only pointing up instead of down.
I'm going to let it keep growing for now, but eventually, I think I'll cut it and plant it like a root cutting to see if it propagates for me.
Whatever it is, it's wierd!
