Here is another fantastic treat from Fernando Rivadavia.

U. sandwithii was found growing with U.subulata in sandy patches near a natural spring in Amazonian lowlands around the Ianomami Indian village of Platanal, Territorio Amazonas, Venezuela. Taylor says it's only known from the Colombia-Venezuela border to Guyana, including Roraima state in Brazil, but that it is hardly ever collected, very rare in herbarium.

U. steyermarkii was found on the Neblina Massif, in a wet shady spot by a stream, together with D. hirticalyx. Taylor says U. aureomaculata is only known from 2 collections on Auyan and one from Akopan. So this new collection extends the known range of U. steyermarkii by several hundred km!

im confused are aureomaculata and steyermarkii one in the same

OOOPS! My mistake! The 2nd sentence was supposed to read: "Taylor says U. steyermarkii is only known from 2 collections on Auyan and one from Akopan." U.aureomaculata is closely related to U.steyermarkii and these are the only species in Section Steyermarkia. U.aureomaculata is also supposedly rare, only known from 2 collections on Ptari-tepuy, one from Amaruay-tepuy, and one from Aparaman-tepuy. Therefore I was surprised to discover in August of 2003 this supposedly rare species growing in sandy soil along touristy trails around Canaima. The flowers were a creamy color, I'll try to get the scanned soon. Anyways, my feeling is that most of these "BOOOOORRRIIIING" terrestrial Utrics are severely undercollected (trodden by pitcher plant people, I'm sure!

It's nice to see a picture of a *real* U. steyermarkii. For years people have been getting a that darn misidentified U. tridentata clone in their collection and calling it U. steyermarkii.
