Why aaaaaaaaaw? The hover fly is a regular in the top greenhouse. It's watched me take a few photos without being the subject.

Your vft is likely very put out that you stole a meal from it. I do attempt to rescue the small solitary bees or spiders from dews if I happen to catch them in time.

I also release them along with bees of all kind, small wasps, moths etc. I let flies or earwigs, they are plenty here.

Glad you released the little fella Fred, I find hoverflies fascinating and am always a bit depressed when they end up as a meal.....
