been told by pilots that these planes are rated to handle a 30mph cross wind..............best guess here the cross wind was closer to 75 or 80mph

North Germany (Hamburg/Bremen/etc) can have some pretty insane/awful weather conditions.

An impressive save, but even better piloting would have been to abort long before touching the ground and to request an alternate runway. That's why major airports have more than one runway orientation.
