Pretty new to...everything

Hi everyone! I could never keep a plant alive until I gave it a shot again last summer, and somehow it went well, very well. So I started getting carnivorous plants to manage the bugs that tend to come along with everything else, and that opened up a whole new world. I had not had any idea there were so many kinds! And now I'm pretty sure I have more CP's than anything else: a couple VFTs that seem determined to flower (yes I know they'll die - curious if they'll come back from the roots late though since one is also making new traps and the other has died and come back to life twice already) and Sarracenia that came out of dormancy nicely (the Purpurea flowered then started putting up new pitchers), a bunch of various types of sundews that like to die back then come back to life in multiples, and a whole bunch of butterworts, a couple of which have flowered, most of which are pretty clearly growing and propagating. I also have a few nepenthes that seem to be doing OK, including an unidentified one from Home Depot from last summer that has been putting out a ton of pitchers on my balcony since it warmed up. I also have a couple utricularia, but I'm not actually sure if they are alive. One gave me flowers but I'm not seeing much happening for greenery, so who knows? There is a lot of experimenting going on, which is mostly going well. At any rate, it's fun watching and learning, and I barely have fungus gnats :-)

:welcome: Sounds like you've had all sorts of successes in the last year. Congrats! No worries about your flytraps dying - it's a myth that they die after blooming. Mine bloom every year, if I let them. Sometimes I'd just rather they put their energy into making more traps. I don't know what to say about yours dying back and recovering. I hope you enjoy the time you spend here.

There's no reason to not let flytraps flower. When flowering is done, pinch it off to prevent the plant from making seed, which is the big drain on the plant's resources.

Thanks for the info on flytraps doing fine after flowering! Good to have some hope there - I kind of want to let the plants do their thing and see what happens. I'm curious and enjoying the learning process :)

And thanks for the warm welcome!

To be fair, the first time it died was when I first got it and the second was when I moved, so it may just not have been happy about moving environments.
