Phalaris aquatica and cats

Does anyone know if Canary Grass (Phalaris aquatica and other species) is bad for cats?
It grows like crazy around here in the land of 10,000 swamps and I wanted to start a tub or two on my deck but I don't want to put it within reach of the cats if it can affect them in bad way. They eat the oat "cat grass" daily but it's so short lived I keep having to replant their container whereas this is an all summer grassy leaved plant we can all enjoy.

Thanks, I don't think my cats could eat nearly as much as a sheep but I will keep looking for something. Will lawn grass stay alive a long time in a plastic pot if started from seed?
