P. grandiflora question:

I was looking at the plants I have in the downstair's tenant's window sill and noticed the my P. grandiflora plant isn't exactly there anymore. Instead, I see a tiny green Herschey's Kiss like thing. Upon further investigation, I see 3 of them. Are those gemmae? And why am I not seeing the remnants of the plant itself?

yep P. grandiflora is a temperate species so it will die off into a bud and produce gemmae during the winter.

grandiflora are still dormant at the moment, well they are here anyway. They die back to a tight bulb that almost disappears beneath the surface of the peat and at this time they produce gemmae. If you have one that is larger than the others then that is your main plant, the tiny ones are the gemmae it has produced. all of them should be waking up in the next couple of weeks.

Hmmm.... there is one that is ~1/8" and two that are smaller. LOL! Thanks!
