Ok my mixture

If you put dry sphagnum peat and sand in a pot and then wet it,I doubt the peat will be wet.I put my sphagnum peat in a 5 gallon bucket and add water and mix it good.

yeah, you have to soak peat before you use it. i soak it for atleast 24 hours.
 
distilled, RO, or rain water. never use plain unless you have it tested and know it's ok to use.
