If it's a fungus gnat, I'd say D. intermedia. If it's a mosquito, could be either a shorter leaved anglica or a large intermedia. However, I doubt the plants would actually be eating fewer bugs, in fact eating insects usually helps them retrieve nutrients from the ground, but the higher levels most certainly means they will be outcompeted soon, especially if compunded by fire suppression.
