I think I have way out grown my kodak easyshare dx6340 3.1 MP camera. I am looking to buy a new one.

What ever camera I get I want it to have a high zoom. I have lost a lot of shots of some very cool animals because I had to get closer to them to get a good pic. So I want to be able to zoom in and get a good shot.

Since I'll be taking pics of a lot f plants I want to get very good close up shots.

I also want high mega pixels.

So far I think that I'm leaning towards the Panasonic DMC-FZ50.

It has 10.1MP and 12x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom.

I think It has all the zoom options I want but how do you think it'll be with closeups?

Does anybody know of a better camera for less?

I've heard mixed reports of Panasonics.

I'd stick to Canon, Fuji, Olympus or Nikon personally.

You are correct Ozzy.  Having good zoom capabilities will get you some great shots that you might otherwise miss.  My Olympus has 10x zoom.  I have posted this pic before but it is a great example of the photos you can take.

This photo was taken at our annual air show and was shot, hand held, at over two miles away.  It shows a F/A-15 Strike Eagle, a P-51 Mustang and an F-16 Fighting Falcon, at 10,000 feet, staging to make a pass over the beach.  Note how much smaller the Mustang is than our new fighters.  It is pretty rare to see the old and the new flying together.

Maybe you can get a photo of a Pterodactyl flying over the Carolina swamps.
