N. hamata on the rebound

A while back I posted about my poor sad sickly N. hamata. http://terraforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=106221

I am pleased to announce that it appears to be well on the way to recovery now. The original growth point basicly just fizzled out and the secondary one has taken over with a vengence. The new leaf is at least twice the size of the previous largest this plant has produced. I never did figure out what the culprit was that effected this guy so extremely but it appears to no longer be an issue. Anyway.. On to the photos!!

Did you modify anything mentioned in your original post? Like changing the potting mix, using something for aphids? Or did you just leave it be and let the growth "fizzle?"

Regardless, nice work. I bet you're happy at the results. I will be interested to hear what Capslock has to say about his kafooey clone and if he has since had similar results.

Congrats! I have heard that hamatas are really picky about... well everything. Post pics of that pitcher when it is done, I've never seen a baby hamata pitcher before.

Xvart, No I havent changed anything at all. I didn't use any fungicides or anything.. it simply recovered on its own. To be honest I think the problem was the change of the light tubes. The new leaves no longer have any of that reddish color they had under the old ones. Again..

ChronoKiento, Actually in my experience N. hamata is a pretty easy plant. It seems to be tolerant of a wide variety of conditions, most notably low humidity. Aside from this hiccup, my plant has consistently grown larger leaves and pitchers with each new leaf. Any bad rep this plant has I believe is misplaced.

I see... that's good news for me since I've had my eye on N. 'Predator' which is hamata and truncata if I remember correctly.. if it has inherited hamata's tolerance then I'll actually be able to keep it alive!

Edit: I just remembered that elgecko grows hamata as a windowsill plant! Duh!

First, the entire plant... unfortunately my plant eating cat from hell got hold of it and chewed off the tip of the next leaf in line so the next pitcher (hopefully) will be on the leaf you see getting ready to unroll.

How many hours do you have the lights on for?

Usually anywhere from 14-16 hours per day. Its not on a timer, I just turn it on when I get up in the morning and off before bed.

The lights are 2- 24" Phillips F20T12/ Cool White bulbs. 20 watts.

What are you using for your growing area? So you are using only what 40 watts? So 46 watts from CF's should be good then. They grow my others but now I only have 1 on my hamata.

Hi Chronokiento, i think it's the other way around. The truncata makes the hybrid more tolerant, since this plant can grow under highland conditions being a lowland. A nice plant for any beginner.

Yea the predator is way more easy to grow I've found out. I have one pitcher now and like 6 on the way now as a windiwsill right now. They are just hard to find and expensive.
