the mix is like a 1.5:1 mix of perlite and vermiculite. it holds hater well but its very airy and light!

I think I might give that a try. Some of my pings would start to decline for seemingly no reason after doing really well. I finally figured out what was going on with them. I just repotted the ones that were in a 1:1 peat and sand mix. The roots were rotting off. Apparently the plant wouldn't show signs of decline until it was too far gone. I'm trying out a mix of aquatic plant soil, vermiculite, perlite, a bit of sand, and a small handful of peat. I'll give yours a try too.

If I remember correctly, Joseph Clemens suggested a layer of LFS underneath a layer of Perlite. The idea in mind is that the Perlite would allow for drainage and the LFS would provide a little moisture for the roots. I'm experimenting with the underlayer of LFS and a mixture of crushed coral, Perlite, and eggshells for the top half. It's been a week and nobody seems to have reacted to the change.

Very nice. I'm beginning to like pings quite a bit. My primulifora is currently flowering and I think I'm going to try my luck at pollinating to see if I can get any seeds. I tried once and failed, but maybe the second time around I will get it.

They grow really well in nepenthes mix, also.
There are some that have been in with the same nepenthes for 4-5 years, never been repotted and look fabulous

I agree with the daylight light, they color up my pings nicely - I have 4 4foot T8 bulbs with 2 cool white and 2 daylight - the cool white have a higher lumen output.

I will have to try your mix, I am using aps/sand/peat (2:4:1) and 50:50 peat /sand I had good success with the first, but quite a few juvenile plants in the latter died over the winter.
