That's normal? I'm not sure what you mean, a pic would help. It's most likely a new leaf.

Well, does it LOOK like a leaf? If so, it probably is.

If its growing out the middle of the plant I imagine it is a leaf. It will open out at some point and inside will be another, smaller stem which will grow until it is ready to open also.

Just be patient. More then anything, I've found that if you are patient, neps will reward you. Just let it be and it will work out. Then you'll be hooked and want more and more!
