Lowe’s Nepenthes

NickHubbell

It’s a trap!
Bought this about a month ago. Label says it’s a Nepenthes ventricosa. I have several Nepenthes x ventrata. Looking at this one I’m wondering if it’s just a chubby ventrata.

Newest pitcher.

Lighting is from red/blue led. Took photos with phone flash. Color of plant very close to how I see it under white lighting.

That looks like a x ventrata to me, but I'm no expert. I would expect less of a taper from the base to the peristome from a ventricosa.

That’s what I have been thinking. Trading material...

N. ventricosa does show up occasionally in retail stores etc. (it's how my original "red" clone came to me), but that's x ventrata.
Not sure there's much that will be traded for it though, as it's pretty much the most ubiquitous pitcher for sale anywhere.

One of my Nepenthes x ventrata left. The Lowe’s Nepenthes right. Was hoping...

Newest pitcher. They are getting large. Wish my phone’s flash would compensate better for my lighting.

Another new pitcher. Hard to believe this came out of a Lowe’s cube in July of this year. Still nothing fancy, just a fast growing Nepenthes hybrid.

I bought two of these at the same time. Obviously labeled wrong. These are the newest pitchers on each plant. Grown under the same LED lighting, temps, humidity, etc.

This is a photo of one of my Nepenthes x ventrata that I got for Father’s Day of this year. Interesting differences.

Same Father’s Day ventrata as above taken a few days after receiving. Just for reference.

Not disputing that the Nepenthes from Lowe’s was a mislabeled plant and is a ventrata. Just find it interesting that the same clone/hybrid has such growth variations.

One grows what I would consider a normal ventrata pitcher, while the other has more of a bulbous bottom.

I'm seeing no difference between the two images other than exposure effects on pitcher color, if you're trying to suggest they're different. Still the same N. "ventrata" clone.
Lighting, temperature, humidity, feeding, all have effects on pitcher development. Mine has produced pitchers all the way from nearly tubular and pure green to nigh-ventricosa shaped and almost solid red, and everything in between.

Just pointing out different pitchers on the same hybrid Nepenthes. There are zero photo comparisons that I can find.

x ventrata or not, I love seeing a lowe's rescue. :D

Not that I think all Lowe's/Home Depot plants need to be rescued...but every now and then I will add one or two to my tanks just to see the fun of a sad plant get better with the better conditions at my place.

This one was uprooted in its box. Probably another ventrata. No big deal. I have friends who I can pass them on to. I’ve had it for a couple of weeks. Has two growth points which have put out new leaves, but not old enough for the pitchers to form. This one was bought at a discount.

Size difference showing the newest and the two plants I got earlier in the year from the Lowe’s death cubes (although better than the old hard plastic ones).
