Yeah, as long as you have a screen top it shouldn't get too hot in the tank. If it rains a lot in your area you might want to consider finding an easy way to drain the tank.
All my plants are elevated on tables or racks. My dogs are small, though. I actually had a rat eat some of my Bical. Just the rims and tendrils of the pitchers. This was in the greenhouse on a rack. It is now in a hanging basket. The rat had some Parmesan for his last meal!
