How old are VFTs?..

How old are VFTs? Are they like, ancient? Or are they somewhat recent?

An interesting question. I have been compiling my own speculative timeline of CP develpoment. My own thought on the matter is that they are fairly recent. My argument stemming from their being highly specialized (usually an end produce of evolution) and have a very limited range (closed population derived speciation)

Please bear in mind that I am not an evolutionary biologist so I am sure there are some great hole that can be poked in my speculations.

you mean when was the plant discovered?

if that's your question...well, i think here's the answer for that.

it was first seen in 1763 by arthur dobbs here in the us.  then some specimen were sent to england, where carolus linnaeus name the plant after Diana - greek goddess of love and beauty.

There are no fossil records of VFTs (or any CPs other than Aldrovandra from what I have heard) so no one knows just "when" it first appeared
