So that was your photo I saw in the FB reptile group...and you live in the transition area between California and Desert kings clearly, a snake I was hoping to see last week but missed out on. Got pure deserts further south.
You'll only ever see those too if you look solely in the Tuscon area, the whole valley east to San Simon is the intergrade zone. You only get pure deserts once you get near the Santa Ritas or southeast of the mountain ridge they're part of, pure Californias north or west within the greater Gila valley above the Catalinas or west of the Baboquivaris roughly. And Mexican Black kings once you get south of about Tubac, in the Pajaritos/Nogales area.
Also I wouldn't label that look threatening, but complaining that you disturbed his beauty sleep.
