Any recommendations on ones that would be well suited (or at least a bit more tolerant) for our indoor climate, notably ones that can tolerate drier environments than others?
I've found that a lot of the intermediate species grow ok in lower humidity. I've grown species like playtchilla, vogelii, and maxima during the winter when the heater was running all day just fine. Also, if you have a bunch of plants grouped closely together it raises the local humidity a bit.
I grow ampullaria and mirabilis on windowsills in pretty low humidity. Mirabilis tends to stop pitchering in the winter but I haven't had any trouble with ampullaria.
