%!$@*&! DVD Player on the PC

I put a dvd in my PC today so I could get some screen caps for sculpting reference and for some reason I don't get any sound (on any DVD). I can play the video and I can play audio CDs (in Win Media Player) no problems but every DVD I've put in today has no sound even after rebooting. They work in my Laptop (both video/sound) but not on the desktop which is many times more powerful than the cheap laptop.

The sound is ON and the audio is set to default (I also tried US/English) - there's no visible reason for it not to have sound - Anyone have any ideas? I'm stumped ???

Thanks man! I do have VLC but I mistakenly thought it was just for downloaded videos - that's all I used it for. But my DVDs all play with VLC as well and I can still get screen captures from it - Huzzah!

Thanks again! :-D
