Drosera aliciae

elgecko

I've got a magic window!
2017 I got rid of most of my CP's and switch out to cactus & succulents, mainly growing Haworthia's.

I kept growing D. filiformis. It has been my only sundew since 2017.
The last couple of years I've been wanting to get a few more CP's other then the few I kept from all those years ago.
Drosera aliciae has been a favorite rosette type. Back on 3/29/25 I sprinkled some seed from 2007 in a pot. 5/1/25 I noticed some seeds were germinating. I also tried some D.capensis "Red" from 2008. I did not get that good of a germination rate from them, and the few that did sprout, I dried the pot out too much and killed them.
Here's the D. aliciae now. Its getting close to time to individually pot these up.

I did make up a pot of the remaining seed of D. capensis "Red" just today. Maybe i"ll do better watering it this time if they germinate.

Those seem to me to be very good re-start species. I've always felt that D. aliciae was badly underrated. 'Sounds like you have stored the seeds well.

Old picture.

Started 2 other pots today. Trying Drosera hartmeyerorum & Pinguicula lusitanica.

My have to see if I can't get my hands on some Drosera pulchella gemma. Probably my favorite pygmy.

Another reason I stopped growing CP's back in the day, was they just didn't grow as well as they did in the past. May have been quality of peat going downhill.
Or I remember doing something I use to do to my peat that I know I skipped towards the end of growing CP's.
Do you wash your peat? I started to do this again since I'm getting back into CP's.
Throw a bunch of peat into a bucket and fill with appropriate water. Let it sit in there a day or 2. Scoop out all the peat that is floating to pot your plants in. Dump the 1/3 of sludge that sinks in the trash.

I've been forced to wash everything just to try and figure out what the problem was...but those bales once I figured out that they were probably the issue, could wash them down to 15 ppm runoff (and this would be 4 or 5 rounds of squeeze the water out, dump it in a new bucket and fill it up with water again and sitting for a couple days in between, and there's no difference between what floats and sinks in these) and still get stuff just languishing in mixes with that in it. Half my Mexican butterworts are just melting because of the tiny pinch I would always mix in for balance, and I think I've completely lost also my white flower vulgaris and grandiflora again because of it. And nahuelbutensis...
Peat has seemed to gradually decline in quality in the one singular brand that's accessible here, though the newest bale has significantly better readings than the last few so I'm hoping it does prove better.
