Do basals sometimes look different than main growth?

Hey everyone, i got a veitchii from carnivore a while back and it came with what looked like a basal but it was very red compared to main growth.the pitchers also looked different super round vs the normal looking pitchers for a young veitchii.i cut it and it had roots but also seemed attached to main growth.im a little puzzled since they looked so different thought maybe a seed sprouted and attached but dont know if thats possible.will post pics soon

Yeah, the immature lower pitchers from a basal can look dramatically different from mature lower pitchers from the main growth. Basals come out basically as brand new plants developmentally. They just mature from these immature form pitchers much faster than a seedling. It is extremely unlikely to be a stray seedling.
