I am happy to announce my hybrid Drosera anglica California x Hawaii is now 25 years old. I love it! This morning I awoke to see an evil Brown Recluse Spider crawling on my bedroom ceiling. I caught the little monster and plan to feed it to my precious pet sundew tonight
I made the original cross in 1998. The date 3.30.20 on the pictured recently photoed pot label is when I sowed the seed of that one. I lost count how many generations I have sown.
I really like this cross. Not only is it adaptable to many growing situations, being both semi-tropical and temperate, but it is just a nice and easy form of D. anglica. Many growers have never seen this species in the flesh and it is a pretty one.
Thanks. Be sure to get some good photos of the beauty if you see it in the wild. I had the adventure of a lifetime seeing the California parent. When I set out to find the plant I had only seen pictures. I was not then planning on breeding the plant. My goal was to collect a plant to cross with the Hawaiian, to test whether or not the HI was truly anglica. The CA proved to be very difficult to grow; I soon lost it. Fungus killed it while it was in dormancy.
