Changing my back yard into a g/h

Do you guys have an opinion on wether i should use polycarbinate or shade cloth for the top of my back yard. It is a patio area of which is basically closed in except the top. And i am buying a swamp cooler which will run openly in the back yard. So, what do you think? ...should i use the hard plastic or the shade cloth and why....?

I am going to put in a greenhouse next summer. My plan is to use a hard, clear, diffused plastic and have shade cloth roll downs if needed. I live in hail country so I would not rely on just the shade cloth. Do you get destructive winds or much hail?

strong storms are not too common. i was thinking maybe a problem would be dirt building up on the shade cloth then when it rains that dirt would fall to the cps causing a problem...? maybe i am nuts thinking that small bit could hurt something.
