'Alien' cultivar problem, mother plant splitting apart into smaller plants

So I have a weird issue with my 'Alien' vft that I've had for a while. For the first year it was doing great and reaching 4-5" in rosette size with very large traps. However, after its first dormancy it came back as 20+ smaller growth points. I'm wondering what triggered this and what can prevent it? I do recall reading somewhere that this cultivar had this issue, but I can't seem to find it anymore so maybe I just dreamed it up.

I just did a repot and split up all the plantlets, each one is super small now and there's no clear mother plant anymore. I mean it's nice I have a bunch of divisions but I'd also like to get one big plant.

Same thing has happened more or less with my 'Dentate Traps' plant, best guess is a soil issue but also a phenomenon I don't have an answer to...
