1 year without water, pics

I did not water these P. ehlersiae for a year as a experiment. They did very well:)

I get the impression then that it is better to underwater mexican pings than to overwater them......I learned that the hard way with one of my P.agnatas.
 
They went more then a year without water. They got about 90F high and 65F low.
I didn't think they would live.
 
That is absolutely fascinating!

They seem to be doing quite well.

Did they shrink? I wonder how they must have met their water requirements... Air Humidity?
 
Farout! I've melted this species before, had no idea it was xerophytic!

Do these come from a desert climate?

Have you got them potted in pure APS?
 
I used to keep them wet year round for about 4 years.
It works well for most mex pings but a dry period seems to work also.
now I don't water as much.
 
im still very puzzled. how do the look so succulent? where did they find the moisture and the energy to keep growing like that?
 
yeah i would imagine they are getting moisture from the air, the roots seem to be growing out everywhere similar to many of the epiphytic orchids which use that method of capturing moisture...
