Washing sand

I am going to wash some sand soon and I need some techniques on how to wash sand. Help would be greatly appreciated.

What I do is put a small amount of sand in a tall container. I take it outside, and run a hose into it so that any organic debris floats up and out. You can also carefully swish the sand around with your hand to get the ickies in the middle and bottom. Once you think it's clean enough, do a couple of final rinses with distilled (or whatever you use) water. If you're washing beach sand, make sure to give it a taste to see if it's still salty....

When in doubt, do a taste test

I use a spaghetti caulender to wash media, in general. You can mix peat and sand in the caulender and then rinse with water.
