Is fine silica sand for patios alright to use for CPs?

Just make sure its pure (no little extars)

I'm using sand blasting silica... Its REALLY fine, but i guess thats good for delicate roots, no?

To be abolutely safe, look for these words on a bag of sand: Horticultural, lime free and washed.

I use 'Silica mix' sand from Home Depot, sold in 50 Lb bags. Not all stores carry it so call around. It is packaged by Texas Fertyl Mulch, P.O. Box 359, Rt. 4, Rusk, TX 75785, (903) 683-2195. In lieu of that, masonry sand will do fine. Make sure that the sand is not alkaline. Most 'play sand' is alkaline.

I've had problems finding out what kind of sand my local greenhouse sells (in a barrel you scoop up and bag). I asked them and they said, "Huh???" I've heard of builder's sand, silica sand, horiticultural sand, cactus sand, "decorator" sand....
