to cut or not to cut, that is the question!

Some of my traps/leaves are deformed and not growing properly. Should I remove these leaves? If the answer is yes, where do I make the cut? at the base? How important is it to use a sterile blade? what are the consequences if I were to use snippers?

I only cut the leaves if they are black. If they are still green they are still helping the plant because of photosensiths (?sp).

ok, that makes perfect sense. I don't have any visible black leaves, but the deformed areas have completely dried out, and it is crunchy. The reast of the leaf appears to be healthy. So, I'll leave it alone unless someone recommends otherwise... thanx magore!
