Soil Mixture

I wsa wondering.... Which soil mixture is better? Peat and Perlite, or Peat and Sand? Right now, I'm using peat and perlite, but the plant is growing, but not thriving and half of the plant has already died.

Should I try using the sand mixture? Have any of you tried it?

I have never used the peat sand mixture, but I think the best mixture is 1 part Schultz Canadian sphagnum peat moss, and 1 part perilite. This is the mixture I use for all of my repotted VFT's and they seem to love it. I think the perilite will hold more moisture in than the sand will.
