Shipping plants with flowers / stalks

Is this a bad idea? Would the flowers continue or would they be considered "toast"?

I've received plants w/ flowers/flower stalks and they continued flowering after I received them. As long as the stalk doesn't get broken during shipping, and the plant doesn't go through major shock, it should be fine.
