sarracenia at FEF

Hi all,
I've not been to FEF ridout park for quite sometime. Yesterday, when I was there, I noticed that the open space outside the nursery was converted to a carpark. Also, FEF has many new pots of sarracenias, no other CPs though. I didnt buy any of them coz I've failed many times in trying to keep them alive.
BTW, any of you guys keep sarracenias? I noticed none of us S'poreans keep it.

I do grow sarracenias (may not be great), many of them from seeds. give them lots of sunlight and water.

I have two pots but have not much interest in them. That is until I get the really stunning ones!

I have been growing a sarracenia since a lady at FEF Thomson sold me the gigantic sarracenia for only $8. Since then it has decreased in pitcher size (how predictable), but at least its flowering now! Can't wait...
I do hope it produces seed, I almost fainted in excitment when I saw the flower...only the second time I have ever seen one (on the web or anywhere else). And the best thing is that its on my plant!

I tried to self pollinate it...hope it works. Now its sitting by the window and getting strong sunlight 12 hours a day (and also getting strung up in what looks like spiderwebs)

Maybe I can share the seeds around here (that is if I get seed)

(Ps. Is it easy to get seed from a sarracenia?) I don't think I would even try to grow sarracenia from seed, or even from cuttings (heard the legend of how difficult it can be, even in the US (where they supposed to grow well?

SAFRA members get discount ah? That is good news. Another use for the card other than getting free use of the GYM before the darn IPPT.

  • #12
What's a safra card? Sounds like something I should be knowing...:D
I think some of them in charge may give a 10% discount anyway (just to please us

), cuz they may seem too money minded if they don't.
