ok, what is meant by ssp in the actual name for a plant? I consulted "the savage garden" but no love there. Anybody else have any others that are not in that book that might help? (yeah, I am pretty much a newbie)

ssp. stands for subspecies.

Sp. stands for species.
Var. stands for variety.
Cv stands for cultivar.
