Normally you should wait until the VFT goes dormant before you repot it to avoid the risk of transplant shock. In some circumstances (infestation, radically too small pot or something equally stressful to the plant), you can repot durring the growing season.
If you decide that it is really nessessary to re-pot now (and not becuase of pests, just needs a bigger pot), you can limmit the risk of transplant stress by trying to keep all the soil medium from the old pot from falling off the root ball, and just moving the whole shebang into a new, larger pot.
