They claim, at around the 7:50 mark, that: "..if you grow these plants w/ nutrients they won't make a pitcher, they'll just be a flat blade...".

Anyone seen this happen?

Actually.....no....typically they just die.
 
My theory is that its the salts in the fertilizer damaging the roots rather than the fact there are nutrients. If a pitcher plant was kept in soil low in salts but high in nutrients, i think it will make a blade.
