Planning North Carolina trip

So sometime this summer/fall I am going to get to go Brunswick County in North Carolina. Bearing in mind the rest of my family does not share my enthusiasm for CPs and have a deep fear of bug bites. Is there any place I should/must see in the area?

They're experiencing a severe drought in NC right now. Everything is dry. It's not but the best time to visit the area.
