nepenthes gracilis

Nepenthes Specialist
Lots of new growth now really starting to show up! There are some lowlanders in here like I promised to Flip side too!

P6212987.sized.jpg

N. northiana- finally showing signs of beauty after it got dried out and overheated to the point of almost death!

P6212990.sized.jpg

N. macrovulgaris- a quite uncommon species to see in collections.

P6212991.sized.jpg

N. longifolia- a wonderful red clone from Malesiana Tropicals that I got for free as a tiny TC plant about 2 inches across.

P6212993.sized.jpg

N. gracilis var. nigrapurpurea- finally I can show it off! Usually it just has bronzy pitchers, but I guess it likes all the sun it has been getting!

P6212995.sized.jpg

N. lowii Kinabalu form- very nice, its getting quite large and I hope to have intermediates soon! Perhaps uppers by the end of the summer!

P6212996.sized.jpg

N. ovata and N. carunculata- a nice 2 in 1 shot of these "cousins".

P6212997.sized.jpg

N. hamata upper- a true one, yes very much upper!

P6212999.sized.jpg

N. veitchii Bareo Highland- really starting to take off after being repotted.

P6213000.sized.jpg

N. ramispina- wonderful plant and wonderful coloration!

I like the macrovulgais out of those. It is uncommon to see and I have one That maybe rivals yours?

whoa nice lowii, that hamata is awesome too, I hopw my lowii grows for me like that, I repotted it and it seems to be doing good, no new pitchers but several new leaves, how long should it take to get that size? It is around 3" in Diamter now with nice healthy leaves and pitchers that are large compared to the leaves, I guess around 4-5 years, Would that be correct?

Very nice photograpy. I particularly like that N. veitchii. I don't think I've ever even heard of N. carunculata let alone seen a photo.

OOOOHHHHHHHH.

Your N. lowii is killer. I drool! N. ovata, ramispina... OOOOOHHHH

Simply beautiful.. love the lowii

Wow. That ovata is AWESOME! How long does it take for that sucker to grow? I've heard it's kinda of a slow grower, and the one I have (still only about 3" in diameter with 1/2" pitchers) seems to follow that idea....though I don't think it's as slow as lowii. The pitcher seem rather long-lived, though...is that your experience?

Jess, maybe! lol Remember, you're more lowland oriented than I, give me some credit for that puny N. northiana! lol

Kirk, N. lowii is a slow grower and will take some time to put on a good show for you. I would expect about the time period you suggested for a nice large plant.

Laura, N. carunculata is synomous with N. bongso I guess...I don't see the similarities myself....

Max, the N. lowii is really starting to "show its stuff" now. I was never really impressed with it until its gained some size. I guess that repot into the living sphagnum did it some good...plus daily overhead watering with cool water.

David, I don't really think its terribly slow. The root mass is quite large I find, I had to repot it about 3 time so far, fills up its pots awful fast so I oversized it. Seemed to do it some good! The pitchers last an awfully long time. I'd say a few months at least as long as the plant is happy and the conditions are right.

i see alot of similarity between your N. carunculata and my N. bongso.

lowii, ovata and hamata are on my short list of species i really want to devote space too, your wonderfull pics really reinforce that!

while i prefer the striping on my N. veitchii, i think the peristrome on yours is larger, how tall are the pitchers? they appear larger than mine. going from the mother plant that i got my cutting from i dont expect pitchers any larger than what i have been getting(8 or 9inches tall or so).

Perhaps that is why Jan decided to make them synonyms in the ICPS database?

Dustin You know I'm just zinging ya.

Your northiana is looking nice Mine is making picthers of similar size. How is your macrovulgaris growing? Mine is a steady grower but is taking some time to put on size. Its about to open a new pitcher oon I'll take a picture and we'll cmopare notes.

Sheridan, my pitchers are around 5 inches tall....not too big yet.

Flip, ok! Mine isn't too slow, bout as fast as a merrilliana.

Nice pics Dustin.
The ovata, hamata and lowii rock. Your Lowii should start producing that white stuff soon.
How often do you get your hamata producing upper pitchers? It seems like they may produce pitchers in spurts, or infrequently at best for me. Very nice Sir!
Thanks for sharing,
Robin

Hey Robin!

The N. lowii has already produced the white extudate in the past. Neat looking stuff, I thought it was fungus when I first saw it, an overeaction! lol

Yes, to answer your question my N. hamata does seem to make uppers in "spurts" as you would say. Its not terribly consistent.

Hi Dustin
very nice i do like the Ovata ,it seems to produce much more robust looking pitchers than Bongso.
Bye for now Julian

The Neps are looking great!
Really like the Bareo form of veitchii. Bareo (or Bario-depending on the map you use!) is just about at 1000 meters altitude, so its on the warm side of highland. We've often wondered if it would pull thru our warm summer nights.
Hmmmm.......

Julian, I know, N. ovata wasn't one of the more pretty plants I had until it decided to like its new home, and show me its true colors!

Trent, its not too picky at all. I've had no trouble with it where nights have been in the 60s to 70s before, it does make the leaves and pitchers shrink a little bit, but its not drastic. I'm waiting for the typical 50s we have at night for it to take off...plus I stated earlier, it was recently repotted, so it tstill needs to settle in.
