No loquid

Hello everybody!
I recieved a Nepenthes maxima today as my birthday present.
The thing is though, there is no liquid whatsoever in the pitchers. It had a little bit of a rough ride before I recieved it.
Should I fill the pitchers up about 1/3 of the way, or will the pitchers refill themselves?
Any help greatly appreciated,
Dino

You should fill the pitchers 1/3 to 1/2 way with distilled or reverse osmosis water (not tapwater). The plant will absorb some of it to rehydrate itself but resist the temptation feed these pitchers any insects (at least for a while). This is because natural pitcher fluid which is present when new pitchers open is not the same as water and the insects you put in will simply rot in the plain water.

And hey, happy birthday!
