N.aristolochioides in flower(male)

Hi all,

I am new to this list and want to introduce myself first .
My name is Christian Klein and I live in Germany.
I collect C.P ,of all species ,now for 25 years.I have managed to find the one or other plant in this time .I am also interested in Ant Plants and Orchids(Dracula ,Bulbophyllum and Pleurothallis.
I am watching this forum for several months now and think that there are a lot of interesting things discussed in this time.
The other thing is that I will have a N.aristolochioides (male ) in the next weeks in flower .If there is anybody out there who has a female, or something interesting to put the pollen on ,please E-mail me.(no hybrids please)

Chris

nice to meet you, and it`s nice to get new member from Europe who has very ample experience to cp:s

Chris,

welcome to the forum as i see we have an interest in the plants you listed.

hope you find a female plant to pollenate your N.aristolochioides w/ very insteresting plant you have there.

Welcome Christian. That's wonderful you have a N. aristolochioides in bud. I hope you are able to find a female for making seeds!

Wow! Hey Christian!

Really great to see you on this forum - welcome indeed! Having visited you recently I know what vast experience you have to offer by the way of growing skills. You have one of the best collections of Nepenthes in Europe, without doubt.

If you would like to send a very small amount of your N. aristolochiodes pollen for me to freeze, we should be able to do someting rather interesting with it over the next few months. It would be a hybrid, but certainly not a boring one

Hello Christian,

Welcome to the forum! It's a pleasure to see you here. Have
heard of your expertise, and look forward to your contributions
in future discussions.

BTW, congratulations on flowering N. aristolochioides! If you
don't mind me asking, how large is your flowering plant? I
have a specimen of this species which flowered last year
at a size of about 50 cm, and am simply trying to get an
idea of the size at which this species typically produces
flowers.

Best wishes,
Jeff Shafer

Hi Christian!
Wie Gehts? Well, I WAS going to try this in german, but it's just been too long since I wrote.....
Anyway, It's good to see another plant nut!
What city do you live in?
(Wo wohnst du? Did I say that right?)
I've been all over in Germany, and what a beautiful country!

Hi all,

Mitjo:Your german is realy terrible ,but you should hear my Finnish.
smile.gif

Schloaty:I live in Western Germany only 3 km from the french border and 20 km from the Luxemburg border.
Jeff:I sometimes look onto your webpage ,when I want to see excellent cultivated Nepenthes
.Your N.aristol.was it also a male?(I think it was)My plant is now about 25 cm in length and I have an other what is 50 cm but it is the short one wich is in bud.I culivate them very hard(that means :full light, air movement, dry and cold)And so they keep more compact for some time.
Rob:Thanks for your good judgement you gave to me and my plants.Shure you can have some Pollen ,no problem .I will send when the flower opens. In the next time I will only have a female N.truncata, but I can really not imagine what will be the result of these parentage.
There is one Natural hybrid of N.aristo and N.singalana ,I have this plant in my collection and it is looking very nice.
Will You be in Europe in the next time?
Rob and Schloaty:It is not really necessary to type slow for me, we both (my dictionary and I)will manage this .

Christian,

Thank you for your kind words regarding my website!

Yes, the specimen which flowered for me was indeed male.
I, too, grow this species very hard, with overnight lows of
about 7 C, and high light levels. I've found that it
will not grow well for me unless overnight lows are quite cool.

BTW, Ihr Englisch ist ganz gut. Viel besser als mein
Deutsch! Ich hoffe, daß Sie mehr wieder schreiben. Ich möchte
Gartenbauinformationen mit Ihnen zu teilen!

Gruß,
Jeff

Could I also have a little pollen? I would only be able to create a hybrid, but it should be interesting

Ich würde
lieben,
That sound somewhat pornographic, but even though I have to use English rather that Afrikaans, this is truely a great site! And I hope to see recognized authorities post more often.

Yeah. It seems like they hardly ever post. I guess they're too good for the cp forums

How the heck did you guys get the "umlauts(sp)" and the thingee that looks like a B(I am sorry, I can't remember enough high school German to remember what it's called)? I'm sure there must be a font somewhere for stuff like that and English pounds.
Christian, I think a hybrid of N. aristolchiodes and N. truncata sounds great! Hybrids involving N. truncata are usually popular. They might cancel each other out and make something very mundane, but you might get something cool-looking.

Regards,

Joe

They are found in the character map utility in Windows 95/98.

Click Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Character Map.  If you click on a character and hold the mouse button down, the cursor will change to an enlarged picture of the charater it is over.  This will come in handy as the characters in the character map are small and several of them are similar to each other.  ie. ° (degree) and º (superscript 0).

Too bad we couldn't get a female rajah in flower and amke an N. aristolochioides x N. rajah. That would be mighty cool. Or an N. aristolochioides x an N. infundibuliformis. also very cool.
