Years ago I searched a pond in the Green Swamp for cp's. There was a major drought going on. The water level was very low and you could walk where water would normaly be waist high. The floor of the pond was carpeted with D.intermedia and capillaris. I have waited all this time until the next drought to get some good pics of the sundews growing at the bottom of the pond.

When I got to the pond the water level wasn't as low as I had hoped. It was low enough that I could walk on the bottom of partof the pond. There was a lot of bladderworts. I think they are U.gibba.

No matter how hard I try, I can never get a good pic of small flowers. I have to get that camera that Dewy has.

Here's some weeds that has purple flowers.

Here's an D.intermedia that was growing along the bank.

I found some S.flavas growing in some heavy brush.

I liked the veins on this S.flava so I had to get a pic even though I couldn't get close.

I got more coming but I'm only allowed 10 pics per post.

I was making my way back to a huge stand of S.flavas. I have taken pics of this stand before. Trust me the pics does not do it justice. This is probably the biggest stand of Flavas I have ever seen.

Looks like there'll be a lot of seeds this year.

Here's a jaw bone and a vertebra of maybe a deer. There were vertebras scattered all over the place.

Here's the best find of the day. On the back side of the pond, growing on the floor of the pond, was a lot of D.intermedia. A very large number of them had plants growing on the flower stalks.

Even though I didn't get the pics I went there for, I still got some interesting pics.

Since I was in the area, I decided to do something I have been wanting to do for a long time. Get some pics of the Green Swamp from a whole different angle.

So I headed to a fire tower a little ways down the road.

Even thought there were no vehicles there, I was wondering if there was anybody in the tower. So I checked the electrical meter and since it wasn't moving, I assumed nobody was in the tower. So I started up. The steps were very steep. When I got to the top the door had a padlock on it so now I was sure nobody was home. So I took these pics.

If you look real close in the next pic, you can see the International paper plant that owns most of the Green Swamp, or what used to be the Green Swamp before they drained and planted trees in it.

Amazing- thanks for sharing those pictures, Oz.

Funny to see how things work out even during a drought. And here we are, scrambling to make sure our media is washed, checking the humidity- mother nature's got us beat hands down.

In the next two pics if you'll look close you'll see some cypress trees in an ocean of pines.

I thought I was about to get these pics, climb back down without being discovered. I wanted to get a movie of a 360 degree veiw from the tower. Just as I started recording the movie I saw movement and I realised that I was caught. Some how the gaurd had snuck all the way up the tower without me noticing. As I was filming the movie, he stopped right in front of me.

He checked me out and watched me for a few mins then went on his way. I think he'll keep our secret.

I finished the movie and then headed back down before my luck really ran out.

As I got to the bottom, I noticed a sign that I must have somehow overlooked.

I'm planning another trip up the tower, This time it'll be a night trip. Anybody want to join me?

Then right before I got in my van to leave I saw a plant that looked familiar. I think it may be the non photoshopped new cp from New Guinea.

They must be spreading really fast, because yesterday I found one in my own yard while mowing grass.
