Music Videos - O/T

I used to love music videos!
I was a teenager in the 80's..I was right there with the early days of MTV..

back in the day, (mid-80's) MTV played all the "pop" videos, the top-40,
and VH1 was the "Adult Contemporary" more mature version of MTV..
both played videos 24/7..

then something happened..in the 90's both MTV and VH1 totally changed their format and focus, and today both channels play nothing but really crappy reality shows..they have been worthless for almost 20 years...as far as I can tell, neither station has actually played a music video since about 1989..

So just now im flipping around cable, checking on the big eastern storm, and I see VH1 is playing a show called "Top 40 music videos of 2009"..

question..WHO is plying music videos these days?
VH1 certainty isnt..
has anyone actually seen a music video on TV in the last 20 years?
I quite literally have not seen one music video on TV in 20 years..
and I have cable, and I flip around all the stations all the time..

I find it very strange that VH1 would have a show called "the top 40 music videos of 2009" when they themselves do not play any music videos anymore..

thoughts?

I honestly don't know what channel passes music videos anymore. I've also noticed that all MTV does is show reality shows and not music...I mean seriously, Music TV, and no music. But I have no idea if any channel is dedicated to music videos anymore, I barely watch TV.

Usually MTV and VH1 show music videos early in the morning.

Back before I finished high school, my school created a middle school program on the same campus, so my senior year we had students ages 11 through 19. I met kids who weren't even aware that the "M" in "MTV" stood for "music."

BET has nearly pornographic rap videos late at night just before they play all the TV ministers who sell prayer cloths and holy water. Sinning and then repentance I suppose! :D

But I know what you mean, how can it be "music TV" when they don't have any music on it?

This was the very first video I ever saw on MTV, still one of my faves even though it's cheesy:

Why does that foxy cyborg have a glowing crack pipe? And doesn't she know that those oversized helmets fell out of style after The Empire Strikes Back? The tiger stripes are an interesting touch but still...
That's what she gets for suppling dangerous drugs to hair bands.

I dont even understand why MTV even still exists..

Rob and Big was one redeeming feature in MTV's new programming paradigm. But that was actually on MTV2. MTV itself is fairly worthless; I even went so far as to program my TV to skip over it if you're just using the channel up/down buttons so you have to dial it in manually.
CMT is even weirder. All I ever seem to see on there is Wife Swap and family movies from the 80s.
