As long as it isn't copied/downloaded, a CD can only be played in one place at a time, so it isn't the same. Kind of like how it doesn't matter whether you read a book at home or on the bus. The copyright enforcers would say it's OK, as long as it's only for personal use. If they could figure out how to do it (as Microsoft has) they'd make sure you couldn't read a book and then pass it along to a friend. If they didn't already exist, it would be impossible to invent public libraries in these intellectual property rights days.
