I rescued some neglected orchids from my Dad last fall, and now one of the phals has bloomed for me. Check it out.

But notice how similar the pattern of that flower is to a Sarracenia pitcher.  Viewed by a fly from the pitcher's lip.  Run away - orchids are a trap!  I speak from excruciating experience.

I have a couple of phals in bloom myself...including a rescue one here at my office. I found it in the market next door...large, drooping, split leaves with a broken flower spike. They offered it to me for a $1. I took it. It set a second spike off the first and now has 5 fat, unopened buds and three open flowers. I'll try to post pic if I can.

Love a good rescue.
