I have played with radio controlled planes on and off for many years. Started flying back in 1989.

Late fall I renewed my R/C plane flying, and got into single rotor fixed pitched helicopters, in the hopes to move up to a collective pitch (CP) helicopter for the spring. I did not want to spend a lot of money on a CP heli to start with, since I do have a tendency to let them sit for long periods of time, I decided to start out with a less expensive heli.

It arrived today. Now I have time to set it up before spring comes, but I have a feeling it's going to feel like forever till it gets here and I can test fly this bird.

Here it is with my 2 fixed pitched helis, a Blade mSR and a Blade 120SR

My neighbors love to fly these helicopters, and around the 4th of July and New Years, they stock up with fireworks and attach them to the helicopters and engage in aerial battles in our cul de sac! They're pretty neat, I've wanted to try one out for a while now!

LOL.
I thought that make some people go

I'm starting to think I may like the Helis more then planes. I certainly do not need near as large a flying area for a heli.

Here's a good size comparison:

Lets see how much $$ to get it flying again after my first flight. LOL

Awesome plane. You really like expensive toys. I just bought a RTF mini Champ ($90 ready to go) from the local RC shop. Flew a little over lunch but it's tail heavy so I need to do a correction. I saw your post on the Adam's co Sar. stand. I was wondering how it was doing. What a shame.

I'm retiring the end of May so I can go full time growing CPs. I rejoined ICPS and bought plenty of seeds.

Gale,
I have the Champ also, and Parkzone micro P-51.
The champ is a great flier with long flight times. Never noticed any weight distribution problems.
The P-51 I have not had much chance of flying yet. Got it late fall and only had it out twice. Not even dialed in yet.... although none of my planes are dialed in anymore. About two weeks ago I got a Spektrum DX7 radio and bound all my planes and helis to it. Have yet to fly a plane with the new radio system.
Been looking at the Parkzone Micro Sukhoi SU-26XP for a nice aerobatic plane. Although it seems that all the company's are down sizing all there larger planes. Might wait to see if someone downsizes an Extra 300.

Here's a video of the Sukhoi:

My last Wednesday night heli flight. 10 flights total now with this heli:

Have not been back up to see the plants since I made that video. I'll have to let you know if I decided to go up and see them this year and we'll both run up.

Good to hear you are about to retire.

Ron and I have just briefly mentioned about the annual Pine Barrens Trip. I'll be sure to let you know when it will be.

Good job!

---------- Post added at 08:58 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:41 PM ----------

Awesome flying. Very good control.

On the P51, make sure you put it into low rate when you try it and throttle it back some. It flies like the real thing. I joined a local RC club (Stoverstown flyers) and left one of the experts first fly it. Then I proceeded to try and fly it. It looks pretty beat up but it still flies. The Sukhoi is amazing and so is the pilot doing the flying. Did you know there's an RC flea market in Lebanon this weekend. I'm going. I'd love to pick up some sort of electric sailplane. I love to hunt for thermals.

I thought the Champ's problem was the battery weight but today I tried it with the normal battery and it still flew tail heavy. I had to fly it with down elevator the whole time. It does fly a long time on a charge and seemed to take the 3 mph wind ok. It's a good no stress plane. I can make it to a flying (soccer) field over lunch.

I'm still into gold panning and led a trip Saturday. Everyone got some gold. There's gold near DC.

Thanks.

I always use the low rates till I have the aircraft dialed in the way I like.

It sounds like your trim is off for your elevator.
You know the little black buttons beside and below the sticks are your trim adjusts on your stock radio? I have always had to adjust them till the plane flew level. Try pressing the upper trim button by your elevator stick 5 or 6 times and fly it. Keep adjusting till you get it flying level at half throttle stick. (Looks like page 16 has this info. http://s3.amazonaws.com/ultracart/i...639925&Signature=puxb5Cv2+q1ZtOFofk3JM9XHDac= )

I always get the planes leveled on windless days. Any wind can give you increased lift.

For sailplanes check these out.

Or if you really want some fun, been eying up an EDF Jet:

I seem to recall that you had a Stryker (not an EDF, but still a very fast plane)..... I also recall seeing what it looked like on your table. LOL

Do they have several RC flea markets in Lebanon during the year? Would not be able to make this weekend, but would be interested in seeing whats there.

Panning in streams? A little cold in the water yet?

Steve, I just flew the Champ and the problem is fixed. The balance point was perfect but It had too much up elevator. A little bending of the control rod and it flies nice. It's pretty wild flying at night using my head light and the internal red led of the Champ. I always wanted to buy a Night Vapor. I'll have to add some flying lights.

The Central Penn Aeromodelers Association RC Flea market is once a year. Yes, I never got the Stryker flying. Thanks for the links. They are some inexpensive gliders. The small one would be easy to pack to work.

There used to be gold mines in Md and Va. I go to a stream that flows into the Potomac on the Va side. I always bring home some gold. The property that the stream is on had a few gold mines on it. Do a search for gold and Scott's Run and you should find a few comments. i wear hip waders and rubber gloves as protection from the cold water.

I had tried adjusting the Champ's trim with the buttons but it was too far out.

Happy flying!

my neighbor builds these.. He's got a ton of them.
They are a lot of fun.

Gale,

If I remember I'll have to try to keep that flea market in mind for next year.

I have read about the small DX-220 and seems people like it.
Just found a link for the Sky Soar. Here is the threads for them.

I'm getting really close to pulling the trigger on the F-18 EDF jet or F-16. People love them:

I think either the Champ or P-51 I had to bend the control rod as well.

Glad to see there are other people on her that enjoy growing carnivorous plants and also fly RC planes and helicopters. It drives my wife crazy but it is something I have really enjoyed.

Denverone, I bet you have gold in the streams out there. One more hobby can't hurt, can it? I just can't understand people who have no hobbies.

Elgecko, you know you want to do it. Go ahead and buy one and join the Blue Angel team.

The DX-220 looks so loveable. I got half way though the RCgroups thread and wanted to order one immediately. Yeh you wouldn't take it to cloud base but you sure could have a ball in city school yards like I can go to over lunch.

You could then support your hobby with all that gold. LOL

Like I said real close to pulling the trigger for one. Weather starting to get better.....

Yeah when I was reading about the DX-220, it made me want one as well.... I have to keep my priorities right:

1 / 2. EDF Jet / Aerobatic plane
3. Bi-plane
4. More warbirds
5. Glider ?
