Cypripedium x 'Ulla Silkens'

Cypripedium flavum ( initially Ulla Silkens)

A new acquisition Cypripedium x 'Ulla Silkens' (C reginae x C flavum) Cypripedium flavum. This is the flower about 30 minutes after it arrived. I repotted (up-potted will minimal disturbance) and helped the plant with some staking. This one is not as spotty ( it is inside) or pink as some I have seen of this hybrid, it does display a lot of the C.flavum parent, but it's still quite attractive. The test now is how good will it be next year.

It's now located against a pretty well shaded NE facing wall.

Edit: Having taken a little more time to look at the flower and compare it to ones in habitat I have relabelled it as C. flavum. The pot was probably mislabelled iby the seller's supplier so I will forgive this error ( I also wanted to acquire a C. flavum so no harm is really done).

Cypripedium 'Ulla Silkens'

I spotted this at the Rare Plants Fair today. It was labelled Cypripedium 'Ulla Silkens' and I'm trusting that this is correct, it does favour the C. reginae parent.. There are small red spots on the lateral petals and I've not seen that, so far, on C. reginae. I must say again tyhat the hybrid is very variable

I even got a 12.5% discount for wearing my CP&F forum ID :-O

Not a bad discount at all. Very nice of the seller to do so.

How popular are cyps in the UK, Fred?

Lovely posey you picked up, btw.

They're still a specialist plant but having said that there's probably a lot more around than
we know of.
