Custom avatar rules -update - READ IT!!!!

Hey,
Thought I should post this up. I've seen a couple of violations in custom avatars. Here are the rules: (Mods, add any if I leave any out)

1) No Copyrighted material/pictures. (Unless you have the owners permission)
Ok, i guess i have to edit more on about copyrighted avatars, i have seent too many copyrighted avatars:
Please note that one of the main rules is, "no copyrighted material, or anything that is not yours, if you do not have permission from the owner, and credit to the owner" I have noticed that many copyrighted avatars are being used as pictures, and also that the pictures were not resized! although the picture appears small on the screen, if you do not have it re-sized the file size will be that of a normal picture, and it will hose up computers on dialup. If you want to use a copyrighted picture as your custom avatar, get permission from the owner, then go to edit profile in your control panel. Put the name of the owner and where you got the picture (giveing credit to) on "member title"

Thanks for understanding

now, the rest of the rules:

2) Nothin with swear words.

3) Absolutely NO pornography (or anything vulgar). You'll get perma-banned if we catch you with that.

4) File size must be 15k bytes or less.  And resized to 64 x 64 pixels maximum.

Now, this is not too much to ask, so please obey

Thank you for reading this, and obeying the rules.

(PS mods- add this to the permanant forum rules if you wish)

hmm... not many people are reading this... I know there are more than 40 people with custom avators!

Hey Spec.. this is bugging me to death.. its avatar.. not avator. Also, Ram posted the rules on this a while back, and you are missing some of the key componants to the rules IE: Avatars must be resized to 64 x 64 pixels, and the file size limit is 10K, not 15.

Just my spelling? That bugs you? lol, kinda funny. (thanks for pointing it out though, I always thought it was avator

)

may as well add this in:
Even if the file size is over 10K, it will automaticly be re-sized to 66x64 pixels. (but lets say you posted 10 times in a topic, people would have to download the maybe 100k avatar 10 times) I guess that's why it must be 10K or less... I'm pretty sure Ram said 15K though.

If anyone here does not know how to re-size a picture, just use ifranview. It's a free program, and can come in handy.

OK I just checked Ram's post again and I stand corrected.. file size is indeed 15K. When I originaly put mine up I was told no more than 10 so that is what I was basing that info on. Sorry for the confusion.

Steve

once you have downloaded an avatar, or, an avator,
smile.gif
it is stored in your internet cache, and you won't have to download it again. so most people won't have to worry about downloading 100k of avatars a pop (only those that are spectacularly new, and even then, 100k is not even a burp, even to many driving at 56K.)

Oh.. one final thing... I have been gone for a while, and the kids have certailnly come out to play with their avatars, unfortunately quite a few are using avatars that are not within the copyright rules... and well.. .lets just say my first thing to do when coming back is NOT to go out with the axe and bring the avatars under control... but it ain't to far down the list... so spread the word.

A new message from Spec...

Hello,
I will get straight to the point... If you have an avatar, please read the custom avatar rules at the top of general discussions.

I would like to add that.. umm.. perhaps on monday or tuesday I am going to come through the forums swinging the axe... custom avatars that break the rules will be my target.

(Oh, and I think at one time we said pictures in the avatar, or pictures in the signature... one or the other... not both... didn't we... um.. spec? didn't we?

(I copied this from another topic... I have the powers to make this one float to the top and be seen again. so I am deleting the other one...)
