A possible reason

I noticed yesterday that my adelae that was looking a little sickly is sending up a flower stalk! It's first ever since I've got it......needless to say there will be lots of pictures

Could this be why it's been looking a little grim? Will this exhaust the plant? Thanks.

its adelea, who knows? congrats, i was told constant flowering will slow down my capensis, if it does GREAT!! i dont know what that thing would do if i cut off all the flowers, i would prolly have a 3 ft tall bush

Ooh, cut 'em off!!

Anyway, I don't think the flower stalk should affect the plant too much... it definitely shouldn't kill it, like it would with a VFT.
