So, I've decided to start collecting again. Yay!
However, it's been a long time since I was growing carnivores. Well, a year or two. And while I used to be fairly knowledgable on the basics, now that I'm gearing up to invest in some new plants, I'm starting to panic about all of the things I...
So, I discovered this very cool, simple but informative nanoscience video -- that has CARNIVOROUS PLANTS in it!!! Specifically Nepenthes.
Obviously, my first thought was to post it here! :)
I plan to work in nanoscience in the future, so this was very exciting to me, to see a combination of...
So I've actually been a member here for a while, but I haven't been active since around 2010. BUT... I'm thinking about getting back into carnivorous plant collecting again now, so I thought I would rejoin the forum, so to speak, and get involved again. I thought I ought to re-introduce...
Today i received a small shipment of recently (2-3 days ago) deflasked TC carnivorous plants from varying genus'.
As expected, I have done some research, and know that they need to be kept in humid, shaded, and medium temp environments and slowly acclimatatized, but this is my first...
The title says it all... I now have an above ground bog.
Today it was painted (outside) with a nice brown-red paint. I am planning to paint a mural of carnivorous plants on the front with acrylic and water colours, and then I want to name it. But what should I name it?
I don't have the...
This is my first year growing tuberous sundews, and I started with a pot with 2 D. Auriculata in it. They grew fine, died off, went dormant - but they've been dormant for over a month now and I wasn't aware that you were supposed to protect them from dryness and the sun - so I left them out...
I have some seeds of New Zealand sundews and one Australian sundew that I'd like to trade.
I can only trade for other CP seeds, and only certain ones, as my country has restrictions on this sort of thing. I have limited numbers, so first in first served. The Drosera Arcturi was harvested...
I have the opportunity to buy some pygmies, my first ever pygmy sundew - but there are 6 to choose from and I can't by them all! So I need help choosing one. I have my heart set on Leucoblasta (I'm in love with this sundew :) ) but if its not good for beginners I'll abstain from buying it...
I've sown some Nepenthes seed.
The seeds I've sown are:
Viking x Bical x Raff
I was wondering if anyone has info on how long it should take these seeds to germinate. My conditions are not ideal, but I think they are warm...
I have a mexican pingucuicula, P. Ehlerisae, growing and apparently thriving. I just want to check I'm growing it the best I can.
It's on a windowsill, which gets East light (southern hemisphere). It's currently dormant (winter over here) with temperatures 10-25 degrees celcius during the day...
I've got some plants growing nicely, so I've decided its about time I do some more research!
Here are some questions I have:
1. How long does it normally take for sundews to grow to full, mature size, from seed? (Assuming they were in the correct conditions and were thriving!)
2. How long...
Hello. Me again. I still have some space left in my Nepenthes seedling propagator, so I'm going to give it another, half-hearted shot at getting some more, different, seeds.
I have space for some species of lowland seed, and practically unlimited space for intermediate and highland seed.
I'm looking for Nepenthes seeds. Practically any seeds will do.
The only species I won't accept are the ones I already have:
Ampullaria 'red moon' (red with green persitome)
Maxima Mt Gawalise (sulawesi form)
I'll accept any others, including other colour...
I have a new grow rack, and I'm trying to work out how to light it.
I currently have access to:
a 20W compact fluorescent
an 8W fluorescent tube
Which obviously isn't going to be enough! But what is 'enough'?
I'm planning to grow lowland nepenthes on the top and highlands on the bottom...
I have a 4 tier mini-greenhouse, and I want to devote the top shelf to lowland nepenthes, and the bottom shelf to highland nepenthes. At the moment the whole setup is perfectly suited for highlands, temperature wise, so I need to heat it.
So how am I going to heat the top shelf without using...
Yesterday my Grandad had this great idea - get me a terrium, or more factually - make one. So we went down to Mitre 10 (local hardware store in NZ) and what do you know, they were advertising grow racks (or mini-greenhouses, as they called them), and Grandad was like, 'lets get one of those...
I've noticed a few weird things lately, and come up with some pretty weird ideas, and I want to know what you think :)
#1 Weird Observation: First of all, I noticed that the humidity on the window behind a net curtain is higher than the humidity on the window with no net curtain. I suppose...
I recently bought a pot of tuberous sundews. There are 4 plants in the pot, but I can only spot three so far. Can you see them? Can you find the elusive fourth sundew- tell me if you can!
While I'm on the subject of tuberous dews, can anyone tell me how to grow these ones? They're Drosera...
A few pictures of my first ping - pinguicula ehlersae ( is that how you spell it?)
It's on my windowsill - does it look happy?
I think I'm growing it right.
It's not very big... is that normal? Will it grow bigger? ???
Can anyone give me tips on growing it...
